The Waco Central Texas Chapter of The Links, Incorporated's Sept. 23 Youth Mental Health Awareness Program with Mentor Waco was successful!

Link Cris Houston, Mental Health Co-Chair

We could not have picked a better community partner because the youth and mentors welcomed us openly and expressed sincere gratitude for the film discussion, featuring Compass and Light's documentary film on PTSD and Trauma.

The Upsilon Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. hosted a voter registration table at the behest of the Waco NAACP. The Omegas also served as volunteer facilitators for the film discussion. Waco Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Waco NAACP members also volunteered to set up, serve as film facilitators, and clean up.

Other community members served as facilitators for the film discussion and aides in case a mental health care or social worker was needed to assist anyone who may have been triggered by the information covered during the event.

The event was a highly impactful and informative program and an excellent kickoff for the Youth Mental Health Awareness Programming

Our chapter will sponsor five events per service year in collaboration with Mentor Waco.

Courtney Davis of Mentor Waco stated that she is looking forward to the Sept. 30 mental health awareness program because five new students will be starting.

"The Mentor Waco program will benefit greatly from the upcoming film discussion on Suicide Awareness," she said.
